THE SECRET TO BECOMING THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE

We all have dreams of becoming something great. We hold images and visions in our mind of the person that we one day desire to become. We may wish to be able to live out our potential, discover what we are capable of and become the best and most beautiful version of ourselves. We all want a happy and fulfilling life and part of that means living, breathing and expressing our highest qualities to the world.

THE SECRET TO BECOMING THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE

The first thing to get clear on, is that becoming the person you want to be is not an outside search. You will not find your self-love in the affection you get from your partner, you will not find your confidence in the title you hold at work, and you will not find your true abundance in the amount of money in your bank account. The qualities that you wish to embody need to be created from the inside out

The secret to becoming all you want to be, lies in remembering that you are already everything you want to be. Everything you desire is already inside of you, and all of the resources you need to create it are inside of you too. What you are looking for is not out there in the world that you see. If your level of self-love, confidence or abundance is dependent on circumstances that are external to you, then you will live in constant fear of them being taken away. True inner power comes from believing that the the source of all that you desire to become, is within you

THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO DO

So, what is the one thing you need to do in order to become the person you want to be?

Let go of everything inside of you, that is blocking you from being the person you want to be

+ Let go of the stories
+ Let go of the excuses
+ Let go of the reasons why you can't
+ Let go of the feeling of not being good enough
+ Let go of your fear

Let go of everything that is not who you want to be

You already have all the answers. You are already the sexy, confident, successful, abundant, happy person that you long to be. All that prevents that part of you being expressed are the blocks you have created inside of you. All you have to do is release whatever it is that is blocking you from connecting with that part of you now.

ARE YOU PROUD OF WHO YOU HAVE BECOME?

I was really inspired by this powerful clip by motivational speaker and author, Gabrielle Bernstein. At the start of the clip, Gabrielle tells the story of how she was asked the following question during an interview;

"Are you proud of who you have become"

And Gabrielle answered

"I haven't actually become anyone. I have just released all that was blocking me from being who I really am"

This is the secret. This is where the solution to our never ending search lies.

HOW TO OVERCOME WHAT IS BLOCKING YOU

+ Be willing to go deeper: Sometimes it feels easier to keep our focus outside of us, and look for self-worth in external circumstances. In some strange way, we enjoy being able to manipulate and control the outer world, more so than having to turn inwards to do the deeper work. Many of us are afraid of going deep inside ourselves. Doing this means facing those parts of you that perhaps you do not feel proud of. However, it is through loving and accepting these parts, that they can then be healed.

+ Remember you are already complete: Many people feel overwhelmed by the feeling of not being good enough. There is an illusion that exists in our minds, that we are incomplete in some way. That we are broken, and need fixing. That there is something missing in our life and it is our job to find out what it is. It is important to remember that there is nothing wrong with you, and this belief that you are somehow flawed is a block that you need to release.

+ Listen for the answers within you: Too many of us ignore the soft inner calling of our intuition which loves and adores us. It reminds us to just relax and trust. You see, there is often a much louder voice which booms through our minds and tell us to get to action. It prevents us from trusting ourselves, and instead lures us in to looking to the material and superficial world for all that we seek. Practice making the distinction between the harsh, critical voice that pushes you, and the soft, nurturing voice which loves and supports you. Then make a conscious choice about which one you are going to listen to.

+ Let go of thoughts that contradict your truth: Any time you think a negative, critical, fearful or harmful thought about yourself, you are disconnecting from your truth. Your truth is that you are an amazingly beautiful, powerful, special, gifted and abundant person. Any time you tell yourself you cannot do something or have something, you are lying to yourself. Your truth is that you have the ability to become anything you wish to become. All you have to do is believe it, and you can achieve it.

+ Do the work: If you are aware that you have some inner blocks going on, then it is about time you did something about it. You can no longer bury your head in the sand, suppress your emotions with food or drugs and distract yourself with television and partying. Get very honest and real with yourself. Are there areas where you need to do some inner work? If so, it is time to get cracking.

+ Trust and relax: You do not need to continue to try and figure it all out. Or worry about how you are going to get all the things that you need. You simply need to identify what it is that is blocking you from being who you want to be right now. Once you can heal your blocks, and re-connect with those inner qualities, your actions naturally shift, the results you get naturally change.

  1. The simple secret of being the person we really want to be is this. Yes. You should let go of the past (though it is hard and you have to keep trying) and start dreaming big. Just wishing isn't enough. You've to have a desire that pulls you towards what you want to be. I created a wallpaper some time back. It was, what would you do if you were the person you always wanted to be. Just felt a reminder. Beautifully written post. Loved it.

    1. Thanks for your comment Jaky. I love the wallpaper you created. It is spot on. This reminds me of the principle of be-do-have which is about BEING the person, who would DO the things you need to do, to HAVE the things you want to have. It all starts with being. By being the person you want to be, you then create the inspiration to take new actions that are inspired by that. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. "All that prevents that part of you being expressed are the blocks you have created inside of you." This post really speaks to me! How empowering it is to realise we are everything and all we need. I can't identify any specific blocks at the moment but will be a lot more conscious/analytical when I act in a way that isn't true to my authentic self. Thanks for a beautiful post Connie :)

  3. Thanks for your lovely comment Emma. I am so happy to hear that this post resonated with you. It can be challenging initially to become conscious of the ways that we block ourselves, because we often do it without even realising! But, like you said, having an awareness of how you are feeling and acting in each moment is a great starting point xx

  6. Just read this post for the second time, and totally agree with Claire that it is perfect timing. Thank you for helping me to realise that I already am who I want to be - I just need to let go and clear out some of that crap that I have been unnecessarily hanging onto that makes me feel inadequate.

    Very inspiring post!

    1. Awesome jazzie!! Writing this post was really therapeutic for me, and was actually a little pep talk to myself about remembering (as you say) 'that I already am who I want to be'. It is funny how we often cling to thoughts and beliefs that do not serve us. But when we realise that all we have to do is simply let go of them and choose a new thoughts, we are suddenly empowered to make a change. Glad you enjoyed the post. Thank you for your lovely comment xx

  7. Hi Connie, I am new to your blog (found through inspacesbetween) but like the two above, this post has appeared in my life at exactly the right time. What you say is so true- I think too often we get caught up in letting others be the judge of our self worth rather than making peace with ourselves. What I love most of all though is your advice to relax and trust. Thanks for the truly inspiring read, I will be seeing you here more!

  8. wow this is so so true. the fact that i already am who i want to be but there are things blocking me truly being able to realise it...i have never been able to out what exactly that block is. its almost a bit like self sabotage. i have the means to be exactly who i want to be (i now work for myself which I'm super proud of & have the flexible work schedule ive always dreamed of) but most days i find myself making excuses not to do certain things i really want to do (go for that run, or go to yoga) & i just can't explain it! Hmmmm will have to think hard about this one! very thought provoking post!

  9. I really enjoyed reading this. I like how you explained that it's not about the things outward but it's what is going on in the inside. I keep trying to fix things on the outward when I really should be just being positive about who I am. Thank you for this I love how it was written and it was very helpful!

  10. Hi Connie, it is so true what you are saying... This should really be taught to our young ones; it would certainly inspire and motivate them and help stop them being so fearful of people and circumstances that they cannot control outside of them. It really is a key philosophy to fully enjoying your life, thank you xx
